Recent union elections held during January and February of this year returned incumbents Jim Pearson, President/Administrator, and Shelly Ervin, Financial Secretary-Treasurer, to the Executive Officer positions at UNITE HERE Local 40. They are now joined by new Vice-President Lorrie Dyer, Area Steward for Northern Vancouver Island. Voting was done by mail-in ballot with the votes being counted on February 29, 2008, by members of the union’s election committee as candidates and their supporters looked on. Members of the union’s Election Committee were Diana Worhaug, Chantel Williams, John Carter, Gerd Trubenbach and Terry Honcharuk. Executive Board members who were acclaimed at the union’s Nomination Meeting held on January 11, 2008, are: Margaret Prieston, Ramada Hotel, Prince George; Richard Dietl, Cara Flight Kitchen, Richmond; Tom Corless, Chateau Victoria, Victoria; Louie Guevarra, Host YVR, Richmond; and Tracy Jewer, The Bayside, Parksville. Under the union’s Bylaws, elections are held every five years at Local 40.
