The Mixer, May, 2008 Sister Eleanor Metz, who worked at the Quality Inn Northern Grand Hotel in Fort St. John in northern British Columbia, passed away in April of this year after a short illness.
Eleanor was a long time shop steward in her workplace and worked as a cook in the White Spot restaurant at the hotel. “Ellie” was well known throughout her community and Local 40 Area Steward Margaret Prieston recently told The Mixer, “Ellie was Local 40 in Fort St. John and we are really going to miss her. She always stood up for her co-workers and was the person to go to at this hotel if you had a problem on the job. She was always on top of things there and made sure everybody got the help they needed when it came to workplace issues.” A church full of friends and relatives attended Ellie’s funeral service that took place on April 21 at St. Luke’s in Fort St. John. Margaret Prieston traveled with former Union Rep, now retired, Wilma Redpath, to Fort St. John from Prince George to attend the service. Local 40 extends condolences to all of Ellie’s co-workers, in particular Brother Bert Ceas who was a very close friend and colleague of Ellie’s and has worked as a janitor at the hotel for 20 years, and to Ellie’s family on your loss. |
